Pampering .... one of the few things we are still allowed to do .....
Just a little reminder that your well-being and looking after yourself has never been more important. Since reopening at the end of July this particular Eve Taylor massage oil has been without doubt our most popular, blend for emotional stress and tension, with lemon, neroli, lavender, sandalwood and clary sage, I can only describe it as a liquid anti-depressant. So why not treat yourself to 30mins or so of pure relaxation in a safe, secure, calm and welcoming environment, and I promise not to mention the “C” word .... Or, why not treat yourself to a 60min facial and receive your complimentary 30min back massage for free? OR We all need a pamper sometimes so why not treat yourself to a gel manicure or pedicure? even better still, why not have both? Book your manicure through october and recieve a free mini pedicure! . . Call me on 07979366317 to get your appointment booked in, or why not use my online booking system on my website? (Valid through October 2020 only)

UPDATE ON RE-opening
Apologies for the long post, but it is very important that you read it carefully through to the end. 2020 has been hard for so many of us. I have had to make some very difficult choices over the last few months, which will be life changing for myself as well as the business and the Team. Obsession Hair and Beauty is still a business and I will still be trading, but not in the same format as the last 5yrs Due to covid-19 I have had to make the decision to permanently close the Emsworth salon and after close discussions with them, make the girls redundant. I have made this decision because we are now in a world were we can only have 1 client in at a time, with a limited amount of staff per day due to the distancing rules. Also currently I am not able to re-open the beauty side of the business. With rising overhead costs, sadly this makes the salon no longer viable. I was in a fortunate situation where my lease was ending in August of this year and after much discussion with the girls and the accountant and the landlords, I've had to put my ‘big girl’ pants on and make some tough choices. It has been a devastating decision to make, however, I believe whole heartedly that I made the right one for me and the girls for all of our futures. I have spent the last 3-4 weeks trying to call every one of you personally to explain what is happening, but I am running out of time, hence this lengthy post. So apologies if I have not been able to call you as yet. As you can imagine, it has been an emotional rollercoaster this last two months. You haven't heard the last of the girls, Natalie is going to be a mobile stylist which I believe most of you already knew she was anyway. For anyone still wanting to use Natalie please call her direct on 07917684015 Violet has also decided to become a mobile stylist, being self employed is a great move for her currently. If you would like to continue with Violet please contact her on 07772033426 Lisa has decided to go back to Regis in Chichester where she worked before she moved to is at Obsession. To continue with Lisa please call Regis Chichester on 01243527676 As for me, I would love to see you all still to service your hair needs. So please contact me on 07979366317 to get your hair (and then beauty when we can) needs booked in. I am really excited to start the next chapter of the business and I know this will make the business stronger. I have moved Obsession Hair and Beauty back to where it all started 10yrs ago, to my home in Hambrook. To begin with it will be within the house which has a fully functioning hair salon and beauty room. This is a temporary measure so that I can start work as of the 4th July. HOWEVER, watch this space as I have put in planning permission with Chichester District Council to convert our garage into a commercial property so I can have a beautiful hair and beauty salon there within the next year or two. All those on our waiting list please bear with me, I am trying to work my way through you all now. How will the salon work? When it comes to the running of the salon there are a lot of new procedures I MUST follow with no exceptions. These are rules set out by the government to help minimise your time in the salon as much as possible. 1) Virtual consultations - if you have access to a smart phone or computer I will be booking you in for a video call so that when you come in for your appointment I can get straight into your service. If you do not have access to video calls then it will be a telephone consultation I will need your email address and will send you a covid-19 form to be filled in and returned. This will have an information section asking for your contact details and asking if you have knowingly been exposed to covid, do you have a temperature etc etc. This is in line with the governments track and trace policy and I must keep it on file for 21 days. 2) You must arrive on time to your appointment. Not early and not late. If you are early I will have to ask you to wait out side until I call you in to the building. You must be alone, only one person in at a time (with the exception of children’s appointments) 3) When you arrive there will be a covid-19 station at the door. This will contain: An area for you to hang coats and umbrellas if needed, hand sanitizer and sealed client packs These sealed client packs will be charged at two price structures Option one - £2.50 a plastic disposable gown, gloves and a mask Option two - £7.50 a material gown which you can take home and wash and bring back for your next appointment (more environmentally friendly), gloves and a mask. (Mask and gloves are optional to wear but I have to make sure I provide these for you in case you require them) 4) There will be NO drinks offered to you so please feel free to bring your own in a disposable bottle or cup. No flasks or containers that are not disposable will be permitted I am able to supply you water from the water cooler in the room with a disposable cup but this is all I will be able to offer you Please refrain from bring anything in with you that is not necessary and to keep mobile phones in your pocket or handbag through the duration of the appointment. 5) I ask that you make sure you go to the bathroom at home before you come for your appointment. If you do need the little girls/boys room then I will provide disposable towels for you to use to dry your hands 6) I have to use disposable towels or if not able to (if your hair is too thick or too long) then ALL towels will be washed on a 90 degree wash 7) I have invested in a new piece of equipment which sanitises ALL my equipment used on each client before I reuse it on the next. It is a LED/UV sanitiser which is backed by the government and the British Hairdressing Council as being the covid-19 safe 8) Everything that you and I touch now has to be completely sanitised before the next client can arrive, so when booking an appointment I shall be adding on around 15-30mins to accommodate the new routines 9) You will notice that I will be wearing a full face shield that has to come under my chin 10) Contactless or card payments only please unless previously agreed 11) under the regulations I have to ask you to remember M.E.N. Do not touch your Mouth, Eyes and Nose whilst in the building. For those of you having colour, a skin test is required at least 48hrs prior to your appointment. I know you have all been having colour with us fora while but because of the new guidelines it is a must for everyone new and regular, to be retested Many thanks for reading until the end, stay safe and hope to see you all soon Love Vikki xx Last night there was a broadcast on the one show telling you from a so called fellow professional hair stylist that ‘hair colour you buy in tesco or boots any other shop, is the same as what pro stylists use in the salon’ This is so so so inaccurate it isnt funny. What is the difference you ask? The answer is simply this: Most shop brought colours contain ingredients called ‘matalic salts’ and ‘PPD’ These two ingredients can cause a some very nasty reaction on the hair when we come to colour your hair again for you. With matailic salts, the hair can smoke, get extrmely hot and in a lot of cases the hair just burns off or disintegration happens when we try and re colour over the top. It is also what causes the hair to feel dry and crunchy to the touch PPD is an ingredient that causes a lot of people to have a reaction to hair colour on thier skin. Reactions can be nasty and can include burns, blisters, swelling of the whole face and head plus lots of other not very nice things On top of these two ingredients we also have peroxide level issues As a stylist we have the option of using 1.9%, 4%, pastel, 6%, 9% and 12% peroxide levels. Each level achieves a different result depending on you natural base shade and what colour you actually want to end being. We assess a stylists when doing you a consultation these points • Your natural base shade • Your target shade • Your under tone • Your percentage of white hair (if any) • The texture of your hair • The porosity level of your hair • The strength or weakness of your hair • What colour has been used previously on your hair From this we then establish what levels of peroxide we will use from the list above We also establish what kind of colour we will use from the list above. If you have finer hair, porous hair, damaged hair, weaker hair then we may choose a semi permanent colour instead of a permanent. If you want to change your colour from blonde to dark we look at adding gold, copper or red tones into your hair firstly and then use another shade over the top to achieve the colour you desire. If we do not do this you will go a beautiful shade of khaki green. We very often have to use a combination different colours and types of colours to achieve an even result for you. If you buy a packet/box colour from the shop, yes the actual tint, (the thicker creamy texture side of the colour) is the same but the peroxide side is a ‘one product fits all’ peroxide. This means that it is just 12% peroxide being used. It doesnt care if your hair is damaged, it doesnt care if your hair is only needing 1 level of lift or going darker or if you want to achieve 4 levels of lift, It doesnt care if your wanting to cover those pesky greys It will just lift! No matter what it will lift! Because it is so strong your hair will get weaker and weaker because the mistake a lot of people make is thinking ‘i have to put this on from root tip ends everytime’ but you do not. As a stylist we assess these ends, we may use the same colour, we may use no colour on the ends, we may use a weaker solution. Like a semi or gloss instead. Did you know that you have under tones to your hair? We also assess these under lying tones along side what colours have been previously used, so that we as stylists can pick the correct shade for you to achieve the look you want to achieve. It is actually these that we work with more than anything and very very often you will say to us ‘I want that colour’ and we go out the back and mix a completely different colour up to the one you asked for because of your under tone to create the exact colour that you have asked for. We work with the colour wheel. Gold (yellow) is neutralised with Violet tones Orange is neutralised with blue tones Red is neutralised with green tones. And these neutralise in reverse for example violet neutralises gold If you are desperate to colour your hair during the process of the country’s lock down i erge you, please please please consider using tempary colour not permanent or semi permanent, just temporary for example the root sprays. But please try and resist the erge to use colour at home as it can lead to lots of issues after use and may lead to us not being able to help you OR costing you more in the long run for us to put it right at the end of the lock down time. If you do decide to use ANY type of colour yourself at home, PLEASE make sure you stay safe and do your patch test also known as a skin sensitivity test 48hrs prior to application. This website explains it all alot better than i can so check it out. #showusyourroots https://styleloungesd.com/think-twice-before-box-color/ Allergic reaction after hair colour

The cold frosty winter weather outside and the warm dry climate of central heating can take its toll on your skin so here are a few steps to help protect it during this season. Problem: Dehydration The inside environment can be arid with little moisture in the air as we crank up the central heating. This can leave skin feeling tight and with more fine lines. Solution: Hyaluronic acid is an ideal ingredient for all skin types from dry to oily and easy to apply in a serum form under a moisturiser. It is a found naturally in the skin and helps bind moisture leaving skin plumper and smoother. Dry skin will also benefit from the addition of oil based serums that can replenish the natural oils the skin is lacking, this will help to seal moisture in the skin. Problem: Sensitivity Temperature fluctuations can lead to sensitivity as we move from freezing cold outside to warm and toasty inside. This can lead to impairment of the skins natural barrier function. Skin can become red and flushed as the body adjusts to the temperature difference. Solution: Soothe and calm the skin with anti-inflammatory ingredients such as Oatmeal and Green Tea. Moisturisers can act as a shield by keeping precious moisture within the skin while repairing the barrier function. Problem: UV exposure Even though it may not be hot outside UV rays will still have a detrimental effect on the skin by generating free radicals that lead to sun damage and premature ageing. Solution: Using a broad spectrum sunscreen (protection from UVA and UVB rays) every day will protect vulnerable skin, especially when skiing. Snow reflects the UV rays and can increase the UV exposure by twice as much. Always remember to re-apply sunscreens every two hours for maximum protection. Problem: Chapped lips Lips are particularly prone to dryness at this time of year. Flaking and chapping can leave them sore and sensitive. Solution: Seal and protect lips with a nourishing application of lip balm. As lips have no hairs they also lack the natural lubricating oil, sebum, that the rest of the skin has which makes them susceptible to drying out. As they also have fewer pigment cells look for products with a built in SPF. Did you know your hair could be damaged by product build up which causes dangerous bacteria if you don’t wash your hair straighteners every THREE months?! This is an article I have taken from the GHD website directly to make sure you have ALL the information you need on how to maintain your beauty tools Keeping your styling tools clean is just as important for hair maintenance as washing your hair, so we've consulted Steve Elstein, Vice President of product development and research at ghd, to discover his top tips for keeping your styler in pristine condition, so you can enjoy a good hair day every day. HOW TO CLEAN YOUR STYLER “Ceramic plates of straighteners can harbour grime if not properly cleaned. Hairspray, oils and other heavy products can build up not only on your hair, but on your tools too, on top of oils that are secreted from your scalp, which can damage your locks if the device is not regularly cleansed. Our normal advice is with your styler turned off and unplugged, use nail varnish remover on organic cotton wool to wipe down the styler plates and body. The cotton wool should be damp but not dripping. You may need to rub hard depending upon how dirty your styler is. Allow to dry for a couple of hours before plugging in and using and only do so when it is dry. You should never use water or water-based cleaners to clean your styler – this is a very dangerous practice. Also, we wouldn’t recommend wipes unless they are organic and biodegradable since they typically contain plastic.” says Steve Elstein, Vice President of product development and research at ghd. And it doesn’t just stop with your tools. The same concept applies to your brushes, which should be regularly cleansed to prevent product and oils being transferred back onto your locks.
